General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) has been awarded a contract by a Chinese company to supply its high-efficiency gas turbine for a 600- megawatt gas combined-cycle power plant.

On Tuesday, General Electric said that it will provide the 9HA gas turbine to China’s Harbin Electric Corporation for the Huadian Tianjin Junliangcheng VI project.

Delivery of the gas turbine, which will be the first HA to be installed in China, is scheduled for the third quarter of 2018, General Electric said.

China is looking to install more clean energy power plants. According to General Electric, a combined-cycle power plant featuring the 9HA turbine is well positioned to answer the nation’s call for cleaner energy and infrastructure improvement.

The gas electricity industry in China has seen a rapid growth of 334% over the last 10 years. According to the 13th Five Year Plan of Electricity Development, the installed capacity of gas electricity will increase more than 10% to 110 gigawatts from 2015 to 2020.

One of Most Efficient Power Plants in China

The Huadian Tianjin Junliangcheng VI project is being converted from a coal-fired power plant to a gas-fired power plant using GE technology. When completed, it would be one of the most efficient power plants in the country.

The plant is expected to bring a combined-cycle efficiency of more than 62%, reduce SOx emission by up to 1,194 tons, NOx emissions by up to 500 tons, and CO2 emissions by more than two million tons per year.

9HA Gas Turbine

General Electric claims that the 9HA is the world’s most efficient heavy-duty gas turbine.

It is available in two models: the 9HA.01 at 429 MW and the 9HA.02 at 519 MW.
