The initiative was developed by Points of Light to recognize firms that play a key role in improving the quality of life in communities where they operate. UnitedHealth has been ranked among the top 50 since 2012, thus showing it has been working hard towards giving back to the community. The survey was carried out by Points of Light, the largest global organization that is geared towards volunteer service.

“UnitedHealth Group’s mission to help people live healthier lives and help make the health care system work better for everyone is brought to life every day through the dedication of our people. Through the 1.25 million hours our employees volunteered in 2016, they helped build healthier communities everywhere where they live and work,” stated Jennifer Lawson, Points of Light’s president of networks.

UnitedHealth’s efforts can be seen in various areas

Some of the areas where UnitedHealth’s efforts can be seen include the expansion of access to prenatal and well-baby care via innovative programs aimed at helping children get a healthier start. Its efforts also include facilitating public health conversation through America’s Health Rankings. The latter is the longest running health assessment in America on a state to state basis. The company also has a giving program which supports its employees who give back to its communities. Also, UnitedHealth has been working together with doctors and families in Alachua County to boost access to dental and pediatric care.

The Civic 50 was created in partnership with leaders and researchers in the industry and it is the only ranking system that gives an analysis of corporate involvement in communities. The results of the ranking system are usually determined by the results of an annual survey. The results are then compiled to form a roadmap for companies working towards devoting their time, resources and talents towards boosting the quality of life in communities where they operate.
