Sony Could Release PlayStation 5 in 2019: Analyst

PlayStation 5

Sony is rumored to be building the most powerful gaming console, dubbed the PlayStation 5, to take on Microsoft’s Xbox One X, formerly the Xbox Project Scorpio. Michael Pachter, a video game, social media, digital media and electronics analyst at Wedbush Securities, believes that the console will be powerful than the Xbox One X and will arrive in 2019, not 2018.

In an interview with GamingBolt, Pachter said that Sony is unlikely to respond to the presence of the Xbox One X on the video console market and fast track the PlayStation 5. The analyst said that Sony will delay the PS5 until 4K has “become widespread and proliferated.”

“By the time 4K becomes affordable in 2019, PlayStation will have a 4K device, that will have more TFLOPs than the Xbox One X has, because they seem to be in a TFLOPs race,” Pachter said in the interview with GamingBolt.

Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One X at E3, calling it the most powerful gaming console on the market, with 6TF of processing power. The console will arrive in November and many gaming lovers believe Sony will release the PlayStation 5 in 2018.

The PlayStation 5 will be more powerful than the Xbox One X, according to Pachter.

Earlier, Macquarie Research analyst Damian Thong predicted that the PS 5 will beat the Xbox One X with more than 10 teraflops of GPU. Thong, a famous analyst who covers Sony, successfully predicted the release of both the PS4 slim and the PS4 Pro.

Sony is said to be preparing two models of the PlayStation 5. Like the Xbox One X Scorpio, the PS5 will run games and videos in the 4K resolution.

The console is rumored to support a virtual reality headset and will come along with the virtual reality headset.

PlayStation 5 Price and Release Date

Thong predicted that the PS5 will arrive in the second half of 2018. Pachter, however, said that the console will be released in 2019.

Based on the history of the Sony’s console launches, we also believe that the console won’t arrive until 2019. The Japan-based electronics giant seems not interested in a smartphone phone-style “upgrade every year” approach.

According to rumors, the PlayStation 5 will be offered at $500, the same price as the Xbox One X.
