Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) Ventures Into Virtual Reality

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has decided to advance its video content services and this time the company aims to give viewers the chance to view content through VR headsets.

The content streaming company recently held an event where it gave its employees a chance to brainstorm and come up with new ideas that could boost the performance of the company. Many Silicon Valley firms have adopted this strategy where they allocate time and resources to their employees so that they can propose projects or products that can propel the business. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) are some of the firms that employ the same strategy.

Netflix content through VR could be the next big thing

Some of the company’s employees came up with the idea of using VR headsets to view Netflix content especially the VR headsets that use handsets. The idea would easily blend the ability to view Netflix content on handsets with the recent VR technology where people can enjoy virtual reality through smartphone-powered headsets. Employees also came up with a video demonstrating how the firm can customize its streaming interface to suit the preference of the subscribers.

The online content provider claims that there have been some more intricate proposals in different hack events that it has hosted in the past, and some of them have already become a regular part of the Netflix experience. One such feature is SmallMaker, which is a groundbreaking image compression feature that allows the homepage to load faster. The company also reported that such features that are brought forward by staff members have to go through laborious A/B testing before they can be included in the service.

The VR proposal from the employees will, therefore, have to go through a series of tests, and if the company is satisfied with it, then it will be launched. There is a high likelihood that VR will become an actual Netflix feature sooner than expected because VR is currently one of the fastest growing industries.
