Item 5.02 Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.

On August27, 2018, the Board of Directors (the “Board”) of Kennametal Inc. (the “Company” or “Kennametal”) announced the appointment of Carlonda R. Reilly, Ph.D., to serve as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, effective September6, 2018, reporting to President and CEO, Christopher Rossi. Dr.Reilly will replace Dr.Robert Clemens, who will be retiring from the position of Vice President and Chief Technology Officer effective September6, 2018, but who will remain an employee of the Company through January 2019. Dr.Clemens joined Kennametal in March 2013 and has served more than five years as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.

Item 5.02 Other Events.

On August27, 2018, the Company issued a press release announcing the retirement of Dr.Robert Clemens as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and Dr.CarlondaR. Reilly’s appointment as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. A copy of this press release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.
