The Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) E3 conference kicks off today and the company is expected to reveal the Xbox One S, images of which were leaked a day before its planned E3 launch.
The images of the company’s new gaming console were leaked on the internet 24 hours before the planned launch at the Microsoft E3 conference, thus revealing some of the form factor details of the device. Sources aware of Microsoft’s plans for the Xbox had previously revealed that the size of the Xbox One Slim will be reduced by 40% compared to its predecessor. The leaked images show what appears to be a similar, but smaller, and white Xbox One, though there are a few changes to the physical appearance.
There are rumors that the new version of the Xbox One will feature a 2 TB hard drive and support 4K display, as well as the standard HDR. The leaked images also revealed a streamlined controller and a vertical stand. The sources also claim that the power supply will be inbuilt. This means that Xbox One fans will no longer have to deal with the chunky power supply that was present in the previous version. Microsoft is expected to reveal all these changes during the E3 conference, among numerous other details.
This is not the first time that Microsoft has introduced hardware changes for the Xbox, though it is a first for the Xbox One. The company made various hardware upgrades to the Xbox 360 during its time. There was no mention of changes to the processor though company executives will most likely reveal such details during the conference. They are also expected to reveal other details including a revised price point, as well as the release dates for the console in question. Some exciting Xbox One titles will be released during the event, and these will likely determine whether it will be a good year for the firm as far as the competition in the gaming industry is concerned.
Vanguard Group Inc held 495.84 million shares of the company as on March 31, 2016.
