GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) has declared the release of its fresh developers’ program. It declared that over 100 organizations were associating with GoPro. GoPro demonstrated possible third-party integration models in a video displaying a gesture-based control system for the camera. The former’s objective is to have third-party organizations develop physical mounts, accessories for the camera as well as mobile apps for GoPro products.
The GoPro Developer Program supplies toolkits, technical data, and support to help companies incorporate GoPro camera connectivity into their offerings. There is a camera toolkit for Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iOS apps to manage a GoPro camera, handle media and also a mechanical toolkit to connect GoPro camera to third-party products.
Nick Woodman, GoPro’s CEO said that the GoPro Developer Program honors the novel work of its developer pool. The company is thankful to the participating developers. GoPro looks forward to officially support the latter with its developer toolkits.
As per GoPro, the program has been developed in a low-key manner over the past year. BMW is developing a lap timer app for driving aficionados that link to GoPro cameras. Fisher Price is making GoPro mounts for kid’s toys that enable parents to photograph milestones from a child’s perspective. Periscope can now link to GoPro cameras for the purpose of higher resolution programming.
GoPro initially displayed its third party support when it declared integration with Periscope, Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR)’s live streaming platform in January. Users with the GoPro Hero4 can directly publish to Periscope via the social media app.
The news comes at a difficult time for GoPro. One reason for GoPro struggling is a paucity of products. The company hasn’t released a new range since its Hero 4 camera line in 2014. People also don’t change their action camera’s the way they do with smartphones. An action camera will serve the purpose for years. Hence, there is little reason to change it.
Associating with other organizations gives fresh opportunities to GoPro to sell camera parts via third-party products and link GoPro to reputed brands such as BMW.
