On February 8, 2019, Eversource Energy and Ørsted, a global leader in offshore wind, issued a joint news release and accompanying fact sheet announcing that the companies have entered into a 50-50 partnership for key offshore wind assets in the Northeast. Eversource Energy, formerly Northeast Utilities, is a utility holding company engaged in the energy delivery business. The Company operates through three segments: electric distribution, electric transmission and natural gas distribution. The Company’s electric distribution segment consists of the distribution businesses, which are engaged in the distribution of electricity to retail customers in Connecticut, eastern Massachusetts, New Hampshire and western Massachusetts, and the regulated electric generation businesses. Its electric transmission segment owns and maintains transmission facilities that are part of an interstate power transmission grid over which electricity is transmitted throughout New England. Its natural gas distribution segment distributes natural gas to approximately 286,000 customers in over 50 communities in central and eastern Massachusetts covering approximately 1,070 square miles.
