Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) To Make Nintendo NX Titles

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) executive vice president Patrick Soderlund has announced that his company will make games for the Nintendo NX gaming console, adding that his firm will do as long as it is sensible to do so. Soderlund was speaking during an interview with the BBC when he made the statement.

The comment from the executive vice president comes just five years after John Riccitiello, former CEO of Nintendo promised a Wii U partnership with Nintendo but pulled out not long after the launch. The relationship between the two firms has been on rocky ground over the past few years. This is most likely because the Wii U was not as powerful as the PlayStation 4 from Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) or the Xbox One from Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT).

Nintendo has also had a rocky relationship with third party developers over the past few years because first party games have more priority thus they have dominated the platform. The distinctive controls of the Wii and the Wii U also require a lot of effort to get games onto the platform and this discouraged third party developers. The console has also not been doing well in terms of sales including title sales.

Is it possible to salvage the relationship?

The relationship between EA and Nintendo has deteriorated over time. Although the Nintendo NX has been rumored to be very powerful, it is still in unchartered territory, and not much is currently known about it. The only information currently available about the console is that it will be available for sale in March 2017. It should therefore not take long for the company to reveal more details or even allow a sneak peek into what it has been developing.
