Camber Capital Increases Stake In Community Health Systems Inc (NYSE:CYH)

Hedge fund Camber Capital Management increased its equity stake in Community Health Systems Inc (NYSE:CYH) according to the latest securities filing by the fund. Camber Capital now owns 6.25 million shares in Community Health, giving it 5.5% claim to the company’s float. That’s up 3.45 million shares the fund disclosed in the company at the end of 2Q16.

Camber Capital decided to increase its exposure to Community Health at a time when other institutional investors in the company have appeared to be heading for the exit door as the company struggles with a heavy debt load.

Community Health had total debt of more than $15.3 billion at the end of 3Q16. The company recently announced plans to sell more of its properties as part of the effort to deal with the huge debt.

Community Health provides professional healthcare services and it runs acute care facilities. It has put some of its hospital facilities on the sale block to raise the funds necessary to pay down its debt.

3Q16 earnings loss

Community Health had a tough 3Q16 as it posted EPS loss of$0.35 a time when analysts were expecting EPS profit of $0.29. However, revenue of $4.38 billion topped the consensus estimate of $4.30 billion.

Analyst reviews

A number of analysts have recently commented on the prospects of Community Health, with some adjusting their rating and price target on the stock. For instance, Jefferies Group reiterated lowered its price target on Community Health, but reiterated HOLD rating on the stock.

Credit Suisse Group AG restated its NEUTRAL rating on the stock and kept the price target at $7. At Susquehanna, they cut the price target on Community Health stock to $10 from $18, but maintained a POSITIVE rating on the stock.

Institutional investors in Community Health

Though hedge funds such as Camber Capital still show confidence in the prospects of Community Health, several funds have dumped the stock. As of the end of June quarter, some nine funds exited the stock.
