Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATVI) Reports New Overwatch Milestone Of 10 Million Players

Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATVI) has announced that its popular game known as Overwatch has reached 10 million players.

The new milestone comes just one week after the previous milestone of 7 million players just two weeks ago. This means that Overwatch might be one of the most played games this year which means it might be one of the highest earning titles of 2016. The player count includes gamers from all parts of the world that have acquired either the retail or the digital version of Overwatch. The tally also includes those who have played the game in internet gaming arcades.

The huge success highlights the massive response to the beta of the game last year which registered 9.7 million players from more than 190 countries. The number of players who registered for the beta was impressive and even more, it is still higher than the retail versions of the game for all the platforms that support the title. There has been a lot of excitement due to the launch of the game including controversies and memes which are most likely part of the reason why people have tried it and liked it.

Other than that, the title has received good ratings from critics. It is also well balanced and it has a variety of characters which is not usually the case for other shooter games. The title was recently rated among the top 50 best Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) PS4 titles.

Overwatch is currently the highest rated game on the Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox platform and it managed to snag a position in the top five highest rated titles on PlayStation and PC platforms. The game has upheld one of the highest metacritic scores among the games released this year on all three platforms. It will be interesting to see whether Overwatch will maintain its hype for the rest of the year considering the upcoming games to be released this year as announced during the E3 conferences.
