As previously disclosed, on May 29, 2016, Westar Energy, Inc. (“Westar Energy”), Great Plains Energy Incorporated (“Great Plains Energy”) and a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy entered into an Agreement and Plan of Merger.

On June 28, 2016, Westar Energy and Great Plains Energy filed a joint application with the Kansas Corporation Commission (“KCC”) requesting approval of the merger. On April 19, 2017, the KCC rejected the merger application. Westar Energy is evaluating the written order.

Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KGE), Westar Energy’s subsidiary, provides the services in south-central and southeastern Kansas, including the city of Wichita.
