Alberta-based Sundial Growers, a privately-held licensed cannabis producer, has received approval from Health Canada to grow more cannabis plants.

The company’s application has been approved for an additional 140,000-square-feet of cannabis cultivation at its facility in Olds, Alberta. Each of the 40 newly-licensed Solaria modules are designed for the cultivation of small-batch cannabis using an individual “room” approach, Sundial said in a statement.

The Olds site continues to speed up its construction plan with the facility targeting full operational capacity by the end of summer 2019. Sundial expects to employ more than 500 people once the facility is fully completed this year.

“Today is another big day for Sundial on our road to becoming one of the largest and most trusted cannabis companies in Canada,” Sundial CEO Torsten Kuenzlen stated. “This milestone is evidence that we are scaling operations quickly which will allow us to not only continue to supply the Alberta market but to expand into other regions across Canada.”

Sundial operates two facilities in Alberta, including our modular cannabis production facility in Olds and a second production facility in Rocky View, with plans to build a third facility in British Columbia.
