Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA) is to launch Xfinity Stream, a new app that will replace the Xfinity TV app. Comcast’s new app, which will roll out on February 28, will Xfinity TV subscribers to access live channels and DVR content on-the-go.
Xfinity Stream to accompany Xfinity TV subscription
The Xfinity Stream has very nice features. Users can switch between English and Spanish. Other notable features include favorite channel filtering and media ratings and reviews from Common Sense Media. The app will offer an “X1-like” experience on users’ laptops, tablets, and phones.
Matt Strauss, Executive Vice President of Video and Entertainment Services at Comcast, said, “We’re focused on creating the best entertainment experiences across platforms and continue to give Xfinity TV customers more choice in how, when and where they access content. According to him, the new app will give their customers access to the best content in and out of their homes. The mobile experience will be identical to the cable experience.”
Xfinity Stream features
Xfinity Stream will allow live access to more than 200 live channels via streaming- Internet access is mandatory. These live channels include, but are not limited to BBC World News, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, ESPN, Nickelodeon Junior, Sprout, Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) Disney Channel and 50 Music Choice Channels. Additionally, the app will allow access to over 40,000 movies and TV shows via streaming with an option to download for offline access.
Xfinity TV customers will access all their DVR recordings on the app, and download them for offline access. Also, the app can set the recordings remotely.
It seems everyone is interested in a piece of the mobile video market
This news comes as Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is working on something to give the likes of Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google YouTube and Vimeo a run for their money. Apple presented a preview of the show Carpool Karaoke, which will be available to Apple Music subscribers in April. Apple will roll out more shows to the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Apple Music customers in the near future.
The Xfinity Stream app is set to arrive on Android and iOS platforms on February 28th. For those who already have the Xfinity TV app, it will automatically update to the new Xfinity Stream app.
Comcast stock closed at $76.60, after registering an increase of $0.51 or 0.66% per share in last trading session.
