NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE) Gets Award For Innovation At Several Of Its Plants

NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE)’s innovation in nuclear energy industry has caught the attention of the experts at the Nuclear Energy Institute, leading to a top award for the company. The institute has recognized NextEra’s pioneering contribution toward improving nuclear plant performance with its highest 2016 award for innovative programs. The award recognizes several of NextEra Energy’s nuclear plants.

According to Tony Pietrangelo of Nuclear Energy Institute, they have noted that NextEra has demonstrated outstanding operations and innovative initiatives that go a long way to establish a firm foundation for other players in the nuclear energy sector. As such, their award is designed to recognize the dedication of the professional team at NextEra that brought in the innovative thinking leading to the remarkable achievement.

Recognized facilities

The Nuclear Energy Institute award recognizes NextEra’s nuclear fleet that includes the Duane Arnold Energy Center that is located in Palo, Iowa. According to NextEra, the Duane Arnold Energy Center generates electricity that is enough to power 0.5 million homes in Iowa. The facilitate runs round the clock and employees about 600 people, the company said in a press release.

The institute also recognized NextEra Energy’s Seabrook Station. The nuclear plant is located in New England and it generates electricity round the clock and its output is enough to power at least 1.2 million homes in the New England region.

NextEra also said that the Nuclear Energy Institute award recognized its Turkey Point and Florida Power & Light Company’s St. Lucie. The two plants generate enough nuclear energy around the clock to power about 2 million homes in Florida. About 1,300 people work at the two facilities.

The other NextEra Energy plant recognized by the institute’s award is the Point Beach nuclear plant Two Rivers, Wisconsin. The facility produces electricity that is enough to power about 1.2 million Wisconsin homes 24-7.

It is the first time in its history that NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE) has received Nuclear Energy Institute’s prestigious award that recognizes the best of the best in the nuclear energy industry.
