Netflix, Inc.

Over time, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has continued to make news for all the good reasons. The streaming service hit record numbers last quarter in the registration of subscribers. Unlike what many companies would do after such success, Netflix will not just retreat to a comfort zone.  It is upping its game in the amount of original programming this year. There are dozens of shows set for a comeback on Netflix in 2017, which means the company is expanding its slate of original movies.

Premiere dates for Netflix original shows are now in the public limelight

In keeping up to the speed of retaining the loyalists of its shows, Netflix has published the new dates that its original movies will premiere. Some of the eagerly awaited ones that have new seasons include Orange Is The New Black and House of Cards. These will be showing on May 30 and June 9 respectively.  However, all the way from February to June there will be something in the movie theaters from Netflix.

In other news, rumors are that the streaming giant will be releasing a new TV series later in the year. The company’s press release listed something called Castlevania Season 1, even though the details to this are still very scanty.

The little that is know is from Adi Shankar, one of those behind the series and who says, “I’m producing a super-violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda, it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.”

But even with this success, Netflix has a lawsuit to fight

Netflix has been sued by a company known solely for its work as a “patent troll” Blackbird Technologies alleges that it owns the patent over the initiative of downloading video from the internet for offline consumption. The feature was introduced last year and has since become a standard concept for Netflix.

However, given that Netflix has been in operation since 1997 even at the time of filing the patent, it remains unclear how the complainant will succeed in shutting down Netflix’s download feature. In the meantime, Netflix’s stock closed at $144.74 witnessing an increase of $0.74 or 0.51%.
