Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI) And NSW TA’s Upgrade Emergency Services Network

Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI) and New South Wales Telco Authority (NSW TA) have entered into a five-year deal worth AU$30 million. The deal will facilitate the provision of network upgrades across 150 radio sites, which are commonly used by public safety agencies and personnel. It will also involve the expansion of network coverage to 23 new locations in the state’s northwest region.

The partnership comes at a time when there is an increasing need for improved communication technology. Thus the upgrade, which is at the forefront of innovation, can be described as a critical milestone.

Extensive coverage will help in supporting daily operations

Extended coverage and greater resilience will help emergency services and other relevant agencies in NSW in their day-to-day activities. For example, with access to enhanced voice and data communications the state will be in a better position to respond to emergencies and natural disasters.

Meanwhile vice president and managing director for Motorola Solutions in Australia and New Zealand, Motorola Solutions says, “The project will provide NSW agencies with trusted voice communications and resilient performance so they can perform their essential daily work safely and efficiently.”

Flexibility will introduce next generation’s capabilities

It is during peak events that emergencies occur, hence the need for full preparedness. In addition to the NSW’s extensive coverage, user agencies will also receive up-to-date radio technology, a project that will go on for the next five years and beyond. Crutchfield says that the digital radios have a richer set of features the likes of location and mapping data, extended coverage, improved security and new and emerging applications.

NSW TA has deployed Motorola Solutions’ WAVE application that will enable first responders to extend the reach out radio communications to other team members carrying mobile devices.

In other news, agencies will be required to bring together their telco resources under a single integrated model. This is dictated by the 10-year strategy, which is intended to help in making use of existing infrastructure more efficient.  It will also facilitate the reduction of duplication, improved reliability while saving on maintenance costs. Meanwhile, Motorola Solutions’ stock was trading at $82.90 which is a decrease of $0.34 or 0.41%.
