Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is building a secure, malware-proof web browser for businesses. According to a report from Engadget, the Redmond-based tech giant is testing a new feature in its Edge browser to protect a computer from virus attacks.
The feature, dubbed the Windows Defender Application Guard, is part of the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build. The Application Guard creates a virtual PC in the browser, separating the browser from the rest of the computer. The virtual machine keeps the Edge browser separate from storage, other apps and the Windows 10 kernel. This ensures that there will no harm to the computer in the event of a malware attack.
If you want to test Application Guard, you should be a member of Microsoft’s business service Enterprise.
“To enable this, you need to use the “Turn Windows features on or off” dialog, and then mark the checkbox for “Windows Defender Application Guard.” Now when you open Microsoft Edge and click on the menu, you’ll see the option for a “New Application Guard window.” Click it, and a new special isolated browser window will appear,” explains Nicole Lee of Engadget.
However, use of Application Guard could slow down the browser and all data including cookies will be deleted when you close the window.
The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build also comes with a better PDF Reader for Microsoft Edge and integrated Cortana settings.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is currently in the process of testing Application Guard. Reports suggest that this feature will only be available for Enterprise users.
