Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has teamed up with General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) to offer cloud-based software and services in the Internet of Things (IoT) industry.
The two companies have teamed up to launch the Predix as a service on the Azure Cloud. The decision will boost the portfolio of Internet of Things available on Microsoft’s cloud platform. The software and tech company made the announcement during the company’s Worldwide Partner Conference, which took place in Toronto. GE aims to make sure that the Predix platform is exclusively available to industrial clients so that it can allow them to customize the solution to fit their needs and it wants to bring the strategy on board the Azure Cloud platform.
GE CEO, Jeff Immelt revealed on July 11 that allowing industrial machines to be connected to the Internet through cloud technology is a major step towards making the business process simpler. He also stated that it would change how things get done. Immelt also pointed out that the company will assist its clients to derive value from a large amount of data that is produced by the machines. Teaming up with industry giants such as Microsoft will assist in leveraging growth on a global scale.
The firms also revealed that their partnership would go beyond just bringing Predix on board Microsoft’s cloud service. The two are also working together on integrating Microsoft’s intelligent services and IoT systems with the IoT technology in the industry. The partnership is also part of Microsoft’s portfolio of partnerships within the cloud industry.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said gave a few insights about the upcoming solution and Dynamics 365 through LinkedIn Pulse. Microsoft’s latest deals are part of its strategy to boosts its position on offering the next generation of enterprise IT solutions. Immelt stated that there will be a line of distinction between industrial firms. The CEO also pointed out that there will be a past and a future. The latter will offer benefit to those that can deploy rapid digitization.
