Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Focuses Gaming Business Towards Xbox Live

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) gaming business is constantly undergoing new changes as part of the company’s plans to take a bigger share of the pie. This time its focus has been diverted to Xbox live.

Microsoft seems to be deviating from its main emphasis which was for gamers to own an Xbox so that they could get the most out of what it has to offer in terms of gaming through Xbox Live. However, there is a new main focus in the company’s gaming business and that is Xbox live. The firm is now pushing its agenda on the digital gaming platform so that it can boost subscriptions which are a significant source of revenue for the firm.

“Xbox Live, not Xbox One or even the souped-up Scorpio, is the central pillar of Microsoft’s gaming strategy,” stated Xbox executive Phil Spencer during an investor presentation on Thursday.

Microsoft is not only working on delivering games to customers, but its main agenda in the gaming business is to deliver digital engagement and this is where Xbox live comes in. The digital platform gives players access to a lot of gaming titles from different publishers and allows gamers to engage in a social platform where they can communicate with fellow gamers.

The service is not limited to the Xbox gaming consoles but is also accessible to PC gamers. The digital service already has millions of users subscribed to it and this makes it possible for Xbox to generate revenue in form of subscription fees and from ads on the platform thus making the most out of the gaming business.

The fact that it is a multiplatform service makes it even easier for the company to reach more subscribers especially in the gaming business and especially in the PC gaming community. Spencer stated that most users in the US communicate to their friends on the service before they even start playing games and this social media aspect makes Xbox live an attractive subscription service.

Microsoft stock closed the latest trading session on Friday at $68.38 after falling by 0.12% compared to the closing price at the previous session.
