New Tool to Transfer Your Data from Mac to Microsoft Surface

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has created a new tool to transfer data from Apple’s Mac to the Surface tablet, according to a report from Apple Insider.

The Mac to Surface Assistant allows users to transfer their photos, music, files, and mail from their Mac to the Microsoft Surface.

The migration tool was spotted by Twitter user WalkingCat.

Using the Mac to the Surface tool, you can easily transfer data from your Mac computer to the Windows device.

After agreeing to a license agreement, you can select specific folders they would want to transfer to the Surface. Once folders are selected, you set the destination for the file archive. Then you can transfer the Zip file to an external drive, and save the data into your Surface device.

Apple also offers its own migration tools, for transferring data from Windows to Mac and from Android to the new iPhone and iPads.

Below is how you can transfer your photos from Mac to Surface:

  1. Connect the external hard drive to a USB port on your Mac
  2. On your Mac, open Photos.
  3. On the menu bar at the top of your screen, click Edit then Select all.
  4. Click File and choose Export.
  5. In the pop-up window:
  • – Set “Subfolder Format” to “Moment Name.”
  • – Click the Export button.
  1. Select your external hard drive from the “Devices” section in the left pane.
  2. Click the Export button.
  3. When the transfer is complete, select the icon for your external hard drive on the desktop.
  4. On the menu bar at the top of your screen, click File then Eject.
  5. Disconnect the external hard drive from your Mac.

Everything you transfer will work within corresponding Windows applications. However, certain files created within Apple’s applications – such as project files for GarageBand or iMovie – won’t work on Surface. You can export files created within Apple’s iWork applications to a corresponding Microsoft Office document format.
