Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced that it has appointed Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn Corp (NYSE:LNKD), to its board of directors.

Hoffman’s appointment is effective immediately. Hoffman is joining the regulatory and public policy committee.

In 2002, Hoffman co-founded LinkedIn, which is now a subsidiary of Microsoft. Prior to that, he was executive vice president at PayPal.

Hoffman is a partner at Greylock Partners. He also serves on the boards of Edmodo, Convoy and Blockstream. In addition, Hoffman serves on several not-for-profit boards, including Wrapp and Kiva.org. He also is the chair of the West Coast advisory board for QuestBridge.

“I’ve long admired Reid’s ability to identify disruptive technologies and the passion we share for how digital platforms can create [a] new opportunity for people around the world,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a statement.

“As a board member, Reid’s leadership and strategic perspective will help chart the future of our company as we aim to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more,” Nadella added.

After the addition of Hoffman, the Microsoft’s board now has 12 members.

In addition, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced its board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.39 per share.

The dividend remained unchanged over the quarter.

It is payable June 8 to shareholders of record on May 18. The ex-dividend date is May 16.
