iPhone 8 vs. Samsung Galaxy 8: Which Will Win?

A reliable Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) analyst from China claims that the highly-anticipated iPhone 8 could be a bigger attraction for consumers, 9to5Mac (via CNBC) reported.

In a note to investors, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the Samsung Galaxy S8 “lacks sufficiently attractive selling points.” He believes the Galaxy S8 will not sell as well as the previous Galaxy S7.

Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S8 on March 29.

According to the analyst, the Galaxy S8 shipments are expected to be 40 to 45 million units in fiscal year 2017. Samsung shipped approximately 52 million Galaxy S7 units in 2016.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to launch the iPhone 8 in September. The 10th-anniversery iPhone is rumored to be a 5.8-inch flagship handset with edge-to-edge OLED display. It is said to feature a long-distance wireless charging and other revolutionary features.

Kuo believes that the iPhone 8 will be more attractive to consumers due to OLED and wireless charging.

“As Galaxy S8 lacks sufficiently attractive selling points (except full-screen design), the OLED iPhone could well be a bigger draw for consumers,” Kuo wrote the note obtained by 9to5Mac.

OLED displays are better than traditional LCDs. They offer better contrast ratio, colors, and improved viewing angles while consuming less power than LCDs. In addition, OLEDs do not require the backlighting just like LCDs.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Rumors

The S8 is expected to offer a dual edge display like the S7 edge. We might see a dedicated side button to the Samsung personal assistant developed by Siri-founder Dag Kittlaus.

Bloomberg reported that Samsung will kill the physical home button. According to the publication, the company might build an “all-screen front” for the Galaxy S8.

The new Galaxy phone is rumored to feature an 8MP front camera and a 12MP rear sensor with a visual search feature. The front camera is said to come with an iris scanner.

Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S8 will get Qualcomm SD835 chip, a 6GB of RAM, a fingerprint scanner, and a 3000mAh battery. The device is expected to run Android Nougat operating system.

iPhone 8 Rumors

The iPhone 8 is rumored to feature an edge-to-edge OLED display with glass back. It is expected to sport a 5.15-inch curved OLEDs display.

According to the rumors mill, the iPhone 8 would feature the long-distance wireless charging technology.

Kuo predicted that the iPhone 8 would the dual-lens camera that Apple introduced in the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus.

The iPhone 8 is said to get a hefty price tag of $1,000.

This year is going to a very crucial for both Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung.

Samsung is hoping that the Galaxy S8 will not only boost its revenue but will help consumers forget about the Note 7 story last year.

Meanwhile, Apple needs a hit iPhone as the company saw a decline in its iPhone sales in 2016. iPhone sales account for more than 60% of the company’s revenue.
