Facebook, Inc (NASDAQ:FB) Eliminating Viral Posts Linking To A Neo-Nazi Site

The stock of Facebook, Inc (NASDAQ:FB) closed at $171.00 gaining 0.15% in yesterday’s trading session. It is usually a good thing whenever news posts go viral. However, this week the social networking giant has been busy eliminating links to a viral article that usually features on the white supremacist site Daily Stormer.

This article was on Monday night shared more than 65,000 times. It featured a wide range of personal attacks against Heather Heyer. She is the woman that died after a car smashed into a crowd that had been protesting against the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va. Some more reported minor injuries. James Alex Fields Jr, the alleged driver of the car will be spending a large part of his life in jail after he was charged with second-degree murder.

The social media giant has outlined that this particular article violated its community standards which of course didn’t permit hate speech on the social network. From now on, it will be focusing on the removal of posts that shared the Daily Stormer article without a caption.

Several tech companies have made tremendous steps against the Daily Stormer website which has over the years been known as the main hub for white supremacist propaganda. It has also been the “alt-right,” in the wake of the site’s response to the weekends’ events in Charlottesville, not forgetting it being an online gathering place for Neo-Nazis.

GoDaddy on Monday went ahead to revoke the site’s domain registration. This was a matter that compelled the Daily Stormer to temporarily relocate its domain to Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG).This took place before the host could proceed to revoke the Daily Stormer’s domain registration.

The banning of the Daily Stormer’s YouTube channel was received with mixed reactions among most of the concerned parties. The forwarded claims were that the website in a major way violated the terms and conditions of the associated companies.

Facebook faced a lot of criticism last year. There had been reports that the human curators of Facebook’s Trending news section had been rather biased against the various conservative news outlets. This led to the social networking giant’s move to increase the automation of its Trending section to avoid linked claims.
