Item 5.02 of Form8-K, Coherent,Inc. (“Coherent”) is filing this Amendment No.1 on Form8-K/A to amend a Current Report on Form8-K of Coherent, originally filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on October1, 2018 (the “Original Filing”), to disclose the subsequent appointment of Michael McMullen to a committee of Coherent’s board of directors (the “Board”). Mr.McMullen’s initial appointment to the Board was disclosed in the Original Filing. At the time of the Original Filing, the Board had not determined to which committees, if any, Mr.McMullen would be appointed. Except as stated herein, the Original Filing shall remain in effect.

On December6, 2018, the Board appointed Mr.McMullen to serve on the Compensation and H.R. Committee of the Board.
