Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO) to Supply Powerful Routers for Iraqi Network Project

Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) will supply its “most powerful routers for the telecom enterprise domain” for a project in Iraq.

On Tuesday, the networking giant said that it will work with Ericsson as a strategic partner to transform the IP core network of Iraqi operator Korek Telecom.

As part of the Ericsson Evolved IP Network, the two partners will use their solutions to deploy new sites and optimize existing ones. Cisco will supply ASR 9000 routers for the network modernization project, which will be backed by Ericsson’s services organization.

The Ericsson Evolved IP Network is designed to offer end-to-end IP network performance, enabling operators to take full advantage of what IP based products can offer in terms of functionality and cost of ownership.

The project will allow Korek Telecom to better serve its subscribers with broader coverage and an enhanced user experience.

“Working with Ericsson, the deployment of Cisco’s most powerful routers for the telecom enterprise domain will be smooth and efficient,” said Muhsin Akrawi of Korek Telecom.

Ericsson and Cisco have been working as partners for a long time. This strategic partnership “has proven very successful and has helped the two vendors win contracts for reliable mobile network infrastructure with scalable and high capacity,” Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) said in a statement.

Mike Weston, vice president of Cisco Middle East, said that the partnership is “delivering on the promise of creating the networks of the future that drive growth and differentiation for our customers.”

“Joining forces with a partner like Ericsson enables us to create more attractive offerings that significantly improve customer service and user experience, adding tangible value to service providers and driving a positive impact on their bottom lines,” Weston added.
