Aurora Cannabis Inc.  (NYSE:ACB) has announced that the company is one of the three winners of the public tender for the cultivation and distribution of medical cannabis in Germany. The tender was awarded by the German Federal Institute of Drugs and Medical Devices.

Aurora among three companies awarded a contract

The contract is expected to be formalized by 17 April depending on the results of an appeal procedure whose ruling is expected by the 10th. Over 79 companies took part in the tendering process and the winners will establish production in Germany once the tender agreement gets finalized. The process of selection relied on the companies’ submission of the concept for cannabis production, pricing, and delivery in the country.

Judging of the company’s concept was based on the consideration of the facility design, security, quality and logistics of which Aurora was ranked highest of all the concepts that got submitted. The company was granted 5 out of the possible 13 lots in the tender and they will supply a minimum of 4000kg over 4 years. The medical cannabis that Aurora will produce will be supplied to wholesalers who will be responsible for distributing it to pharmacies and some will be sold directly to the government of Germany.

Global expansion

Aurora’s Chief Global Business Development Officer, Neil Belot stated that the company was delighted to be selected by the government of Germany as one of the three to carry out medical cannabis cultivation and production in the country. He added that the rating of their concept emphasizes their commitment and it’s a validation of their cultivation philosophy and the company’s track record in delivering high-quality medical cannabis.

Aurora began delivering dried cannabis flower to Germany in 2017 and recently the company added cannabis extracts to its offerings. The awarding of the contracts demonstrates the dedication of the company in establishing itself in the Germany market.

Aurora Deutschland’s Dr. Florian Holzapfel stated that winning the tender shows the company’s ability to collaborate with international governments. After finalizing the contract Aurora plans to build an ultramodern cannabis production facility to serve German patients.
