The two companies have been working together to make the product a reality. Their intention was to offer all the tools necessary, including but not limited to cloud storage, 4G connectivity, application services and communication hardware. Sensamo CEO Mike Reich stated that one of the biggest challenges while kick-starting IoT is selecting the ideal hardware and software. This is often not easy because they are rapidly evolving.

AT&T reported that developers will have access to its control center as well as the IoT platform provided by Cisco. This will allow for better management of connected devices. Chris Penrose, the telecommunication company’s current president for IoT organization, announced the kit during Cisco’s live conference that was held in Las Vegas. Penrose stated that the product has everything developers require to shift from the edge to the cloud. He also pointed out that they have carried out research to identify what needs to be included in the starter pack and that the product is well priced compared to competition.

AT&T also noted that Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT) was in the development of the starter kit. Cisco’s head of IoT cloud marketing Martyn Etherington stated developers are vital to application development so as to offer new and value-oriented services via connected devices. The IoT starter Kit is therefore designed to facilitate faster success for developers that want to set up internet-connected services for businesses.

Developers looking to purchase the kit can do so from Avnet or AT&T at $99. Some of the benefits of the starter kit include reducing costs and boosting performance. The kit will be used by developers during the SHAPE hackathon that will take place in San Francisco.
