Walter Isaacson, who is the biographer of Steve Jobs, believes that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) “is no longer the most innovative of companies.”

Isaacson, chief executive of Aspen Institute, said on CNBC that he is surprised the world’s most valuable company has not introduced its virtual assistant yet. He thinks that the virtual assistant business is a big thing but Apple may have missed the opportunity. The voice-controlled devices market is led by Amazon and Google.

According to Isaacson, the new leaders in innovation are companies like Google and Amazon. “Apple is no longer the most innovative of companies,” Isaacson said, adding that but the company is “good at execution.”

He believes that Apple should have built a smart speaker using its Siri virtual assistant. Isaacson said that he use both Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is reportedly testing a smart home device. According to the latest reports, the company’s employees are testing Amazon Echo rivals at their homes. The tech giant is expected to release the home assistant device sometime this year.

But, according to Isaacson, Apple could be too late the party. Instead, the iPhone maker should look for areas where it can show innovation.
