Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone Plus 6 Explodes Next To A Woman As She Slept

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has a case to answer in regards to the spontaneous bursting into flames of an iPhone 6 plus belonging to Amanda Bentz of Palm Harbor. The Florida woman says this took place as the device was charging on her nightstand and that she was asleep at the time. Apparently, there was no warning because there was no smoke or spark. The phone just burst into flames out of nowhere at about three o’clock in the morning.

Of the incident, she says, “My face was so close to the phone that when it immediately went up in flames, it woke me up. I’m luckily a light sleeper. It was just like a ‘shhh shhh,’ kind of like fireworks. It literally blew flames right out the side of the phone.”

Husband Kyle jumped into action

Kyle was woken up by Bentz’s screams and immediately swung into action. According to reports he grabbed one of his flame-retardant work shirts and quickly put out the flames. However, the fire had singed her comforter, pillow case and curtains and her nightstand was left covered in black soot alongside her earrings. It was by sheer luck that the bed and the curtains did not catch fire.

Apparently, the couple, who are the proprietors of The Coastal Boat Club in Palm Harbor say that the Apple charger was actually not affected. This, of course, would have been the first thing to check but it was intact.

So what exactly happened? What is Apple saying?

Bentz’s phone is similar to that of her husband. They got them the same day and have been using them for two and half years.  After the incident, they contacted Apple immediately and having talked to various engineers who have begun the safety analysis, they say they are waiting for feedback.

Meanwhile, an Apple spokesman has confirmed that they are looking into the matter and the company is also offering Bentz a replacement phone. Kyle says that he has been hearing stories of Galaxy phones catching fire but none of the stories involved an iPhone.  In the meantime, Apple’s stock closed at $128.75 an increase of $7.40 or 6.10%.
