Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) artificial intelligence Siri helped save the life of a one-year-old baby by calling for an Ambulance when the child stopped breathing.
The child’s mother Stacey Gleeson saw her baby turning blue through a baby monitor and as she rushed into the room to save the child, she dropped her handset. Just as she began to administer CPR to her child, she remembered that Siri has voice response, and she immediately summoned Siri to call for an ambulance. Siri immediately alerted the emergency response team who got to the home as quickly as they could.
The child, whose name is Giana, had been suffering from severe bronchitis and a chest infection; however, the mother managed to save her daughter through her quick thinking. Ms. Gleeson told BBC News that her child has since recovered, and Siri played a huge role in saving the baby. Doctors told Ms. Gleeson that Giana made a full recovery and that there was no permanent damage.
The mother also said that she has owned the phone since the beginning of the year. She thought that Siri was an interesting feature, and she tried to learn as much as she could with it. Ms. Gleeson also said that she leaves Siri permanently active all the time since the incident. The option of leaving Siri on is not available on all iPhones but is on the iPhone 6S. She claims that she would have been too distracted and worried by her daughter’s situation to dial the phone in time. She even called Apple to express her gratitude for Siri.
This is not the first time that Siri has saved the day. A teenager in Tennessee claims that the Siri app saved his life when he got pinned under his truck while making repairs. The teenager claims that he could not reach his phone but he told Siri to dial emergency services, which is how he was saved.
