Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Apple Watch To Assist Restaurants In Boosting Customer Service

The Apple Watch by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is not one of the gadgets that one would expect to help boost service at a restaurant but thanks to a new app developed by Resy, it will be exactly that for Union Square Café.

The new app will allow the Apple Watch to notify the restaurant staff every time the VIP guest arrives. The Apple Watch will also let the staff know when bottle service is taking too long or when the customers require their coats once they are done with their meal. The app, known as ResyOS is the brainchild of Resy and the Union Square Hospitality restaurant group which is based in New York. The idea behind the app was to find a way of using technology to boost customer service.

“It’s another way to listen and respond to our guests…,” pointed out Maureen Cushing, the VP for technology at Union Square Hospitality.

The Union Square Café in New York will the first restaurant to test out the app. The café has been going through some renovations and is expected to reopen in October. The alerts on the Apple Watches will come from a centrally located iPad that will act as a central hub. For the system to work, Sommeliers and managers will have to wear Apple Watches.

Resy is yet to reveal whether the test will also take place in other restaurants other than the Union Square Café. The startup also has other services such as payment and reservation system used by more than 500 restaurants. The system is used by more than 200,000 diners on a weekly basis.

A different startup called SevenRooms is also trying out a new App for the Apple Watch. The app will target restaurants though the startup is also working on a different Apple Watch app that will provide customer information to the business.

Apple Stocks closed the recent trading session at $112.18, down by $1.77 or 1.55% compared to the value of the stock in the previous close. The trading volume for the stock was 35.89 million.
