Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) Announces Plans to Build 1st Fulfillment Center in Oregon

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is planning to build its first fulfillment center in Oregon. The new facility in Troutdale will create more than 1,500 full-time positions.

The 855,000-square-foot Troutdale fulfillment center will be used to process to pick, pack, and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics, and toys.

The e-commerce giant operates a sortation center in Hillsboro and Prime Now hub in Portland. The Troutdale facility will be the company’s fulfillment center in Oregon.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) said that more than 40,000 authors, sellers, and developers from the state use its platform.

“Troutdale has an excellent workforce, is strategically located to support Amazon’s growing customer fulfillment operations and we are thrilled to be long-term partners with this innovative company. Amazon has demonstrated it wants to work with our community to spur positive economic growth through job creation, partnership with local businesses and philanthropic activities – and we couldn’t be more thrilled,” Troutdale Mayor Casey Ryan said in a statement.

Fulfillment by Amazon

Fulfillment by Amazon provides storage, packaging, and shipping service to sellers on Amazon.com. The service lets businesses and sellers store products in the e-commerce giant’s fulfillment centers and the company picks, packs, ships, and provides customer service for these products. The e-commerce has created a big fulfillment network in the world.

Meanwhile, shares of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) closed down 1.37% on Monday. The stock is up more than 28% so far this year. During the last 12 months, the online retailer’s share price has surged over 34%.
