Process Engineer at AK Steel, Charles Copeland and Technical Manager at AK Steel Stuart Street has been awarded the AISI Finalist Medal for the paper – “Improving the Reliability of Blast Furnace Blowpipes”. The paper elaborated their contribution at AK Steel’s Dearborn Works located in Dearborn, Michigan. The paper focused on an exhaustive examination of materials, maintenance and design changes, to establish a way to enhance dependability of this part of the steel producing process.

Chief Executive Officer at AK Steel, Roger Newport congratulated the duo for being honored by the Finalist Medal from AISI.  The paper highlights AK Steel’s goal to establish enhanced processes which help better fulfill the requirements of customers in the present and the future.

AISI says that the finalist medals are bestowed for papers with special contribution and significance associated with the interests and activities of the iron and steel sector. Papers are evaluated on the basis of their potential worth to the future state of the sector, technical expertise and innovation, efficient communication, and scope of interest to the members of AISI.

Meanwhile, construction on the company’s Research and Innovation Center is continuing. However no opening data has been declared. Communications manager, Lisa Jester said that the $36 million establishment is anticipated to be fully constructed later this year. After that, AK Steel will transit into the new facility.

Presently around 76 engineers, scientists and researchers operate at AK Steel’s research facility on Curtis Street in Middletown. The team will shift to the new site on its completion. Around 15 fresh full-time jobs will also be added at the new site.

Jester said the new center demonstrates AK Steel’s dedication to the future of steel production in the US. It also reflects the organization’s leading role as a technical innovator in the steel industry.
