LG Display Co Ltd. (ADR)(NYSE:LPL) has announced that it plans to introduce new content for its latest flagship smartphone, the LG G6 to take advantage of its aspect ratio.
LG electronics wants to introduce roughly 100 new varieties of content that will be optimized to take advantage of the 18:9 aspect ratios on the LG G6 handset. The new content will include 24-bit HI-FI music, Dolby Vision videos as well as new games. The new offerings for the flagship smartphone are expected to come on board as soon as next month. This will allow the firm to boost the already existing content which is currently about 200 varieties.
“Compared with conventional 16:9 aspect ratio displays, the 18:9 format offers more viewing space and a more immersive experience when streaming videos and playing games,” LG pointed out.
LG will introduce the new content via the LG Smartworld app
The Korean electronics firm plans to release the new content through the LG Smartworld app. The company currently offers about 1,200 songs that are in HI-FI on the platform and it plans to add about four or five 24-bit Hi-Fi music files. There is a chance that the number of music files added might go higher and users will access and download them for free. LG also revealed that it plans to team up with numerous artists of different genres so as to diversify and bring fresh content on board.
The idea behind the new additional content for the smartphone is to make the services offered by the company more attractive while at the same time making the LG G6 more attractive. It will especially be an interesting coffering for the Korean version of the handset which is capable of up to 32-bit Hi-Fi sound. LG is also offering wireless charging for the U.S. version of the device.
LG G6’s 18:9 display ratio receiving praise
The LG G6 has earned the electronics company a lot of praise especially due to the unique 18:9 aspect ratio which makes very unique in the high-end smartphone market. The aspect ratio of the display has very few rivals making it a very attractive product. LG hopes to expand its market with the expanding content for the LG G6 with as many as 300 apps and it hopes that the strategy will help steer the unforgiving tides of the rapidly growing smartphone market.
