On March 4, 2019, Philip Morris International Inc. issued a press release announcing that, as a result of a judgment in two smoking and health class actions in Qubec against its Canadian subsidiary, Rothmans, Benson Hedges Inc., issued on March 1, 2019, it will incur in its consolidated results a pre-tax charge of $194 million, representing approximately $142 million net of tax, in the first quarter 2019, recorded as tobacco litigation-related expenses.
The press release, attached as Exhibit 99.1 to this Current Report on Form 8-K and incorporated by reference to this item 7.01, describes the impact of this charge on the companys full-year 2019 reported diluted earnings per share forecast.
PMI is not a party to the cases.
