The stock of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE) closed at $14.89 gaining 1.29% in yesterday’s trading session. Aruba, one of its constituents will be collaborating with Purdue University’s College of Agriculture in a progressive course. The two will be pushing for both the development and the delivery of a digital agriculture program that will revolutionize farming and food production for the ever rising global population.

Most probably, 2050 will see the world’s population rise to hit the nine billion mark. After scrutinizing the matter, a number of top researchers have come to the conclusion that the agricultural output needs to double in order to meet up to the increasing demand. Purdue University’s world-renowned College of Agriculture is using HPE Edgeline solutions and the Aruba Wi-Fi. It hopes to unveil a digital agriculture program that targets both growth and the production of food and fuel more effectively.

Located at Purdue’s 1,408-acre Agronomy Center for Research and Education (ACRE) field research station, this digital agriculture project utilizes sensors, human inputs and cameras in capturing terabytes of data daily. The university will be leveraging the HPE Edgeline Converged Edge Systems for compute and the Aruba wireless solutions for mobile connectivity to aggregate, process and transmit data back to Purdue’s HPE supercomputer. That will culminate into an agriculture-centric IT infrastructure that will comprise of advanced Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and devices that will make it easy for researchers to carry out studies.

Karen Plaut who is the interim Dean of the College of Agriculture opined, “Our digital agriculture project is the natural extension of a 5+ year strategic relationship between Purdue University and HPE. Together, we can innovate and drive new efficiencies that have a significant impact on global food production.”

The collaboration of Purdue and HPE Aruba has led to the development of several new AgTech innovations. Such innovations have played a significant role ole towards changing the speed at which researchers gather information as well as share their recommended practices towards improving farming and the food production processes.
