Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ:SYMC) has announced that the Norton Core high-performance Wi-Fi router is now available for purchase in the U.S.

It quickly attracted the attention of the tech world because it promised a whole new concept for Wi-Fi routers by prioritizing on security. The routers are currently available for sale at various Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY) stores, on Norton.com and on Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). They are also available on Best Buy’s website.
“This is an exciting day for Symantec and for consumer digital safety. As the Internet of Things industry continues to evolve, connected homes become more common, and devices within homes continue to multiply, it’s vital that consumers have a way to protect their family’s connected devices from new and sophisticated attacks,” stated Fran Rosch, the executive VP and general manager of Consumer business at Symantec.
Symantec came up with the idea for the router after identifying that there was a need for more digital security and thus the concept of the Norton Core router was born. It is aimed at providing a digital safety solution that has the capacity to protect home networks and the connected devices connected to the same home network.
Researchers from Symantec found security vulnerabilities in 50 different connected IoT home devices. These devices included smart hubs and thermostats that can be easy targets for hackers. The researchers also discovered that the number of attempted hackings on connected devices in homes has been on the rise, thus the need for a solution that allows consumers to protect their devices.
The Norton Core offers an elegant design in addition to robust security capabilities with a price tag just north of $250. It also features customizable parental controls so that parents will have the option of setting limits that are ideal for family use. This includes content filters among other features that are designed to suit user preferences.
