The stock of Facebook, Inc (NASDAQ:FB) closed at $177.95 losing 0.07% in yesterday’s trading session. Construction is currently underway on a wind farm that is expected to be supplying 100 percent of the power required in operating the Nebraska-based Facebook data center.
The Rattlesnake Creek wind farm found in Dixon County, Nebraska is expected to produce approximately 320 megawatts (MW).The power purchase agreement provides that the social media giant will be obtaining the power from 200 MW of the farm’s capacity required in the operation of its data center.
Bobby Hollis, Facebook’s director of global energy, through a statement outlined that the business was doing quite well. The company’s goal will be to move ahead and power all its operations with clean and renewable energy.
Rattlesnake Creek Wind Project, which happens to be a subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America (EGPNA) is the owner of the site. The construction has cost about $430 million and analysts agree that the U.S is fast rising in becoming one of the top wind markets in the world.
The Enel site will soon be launching its operations and it is projected that it will be producing about 1.3 terawatt hours per year. The target is trying by all means possible to meet up to the annual consumption needs of about 105,000 U.S. homes.
The head of Enel Green Power,Antonio Cammisecra, opined, “This project consolidates our growing presence in the U.S. as our company enters into a new state and expands our business with new partners. We are thrilled to be able to support Facebook’s growing renewable energy needs in Nebraska and be a part of driving economic development in the region.”
Facebook has been facing a series of challenges over the years and one of them was the controversial Russian interference in previous U.S elections. Facebook’s spokesperson in a recent statement said that challenges have been part and parcel of their everyday running of business and they won’t stop them from achieving their set goals. The recent move has been praised by market experts who believe the company is on the right path.
