It is now three months since Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled their first wireless earphones called AirPods. Unfortunately, the company still hasn’t started shipped them, and from the look of things, they may not be available for the upcoming holiday season.
The tech giant has delayed the launch of the wireless AirPods, which was slated for October. According to The Wall Street Journal, an unnamed source has reported that major technical problems have occasioned the delay. One of the problems is that the earpieces have issues in the way they are receiving signals via Bluetooth.
The iPhone 7 was launched without the headphone jack even though consumers can still use wired earphones. But apparently, claims indicate that Apple did not give solid reasons for the delay. In fact, John Gruber, an Apple blogger, doubts the faulty wireless technology as being the cause of the delay. He is suspecting a manufacturing error.
What is not being said about the Siri-enabled wireless earphones
Apple claims that it must have its act together before letting the AirPods loose. It must ensure that both earpieces are receiving signals simultaneously, an art that seems not to have been perfected yet. A source with more information also indicates that Apple is also working to resolve issues surrounding user loss of one of the earpieces and drained battery charge.
However, Gruber feels otherwise. He quotes, “These AirPods are my favorite new Apple product in years — exactly as they are. It makes more sense to me that Apple has run into a manufacturing problem, not that they discovered a design defect after they were announced.”
But Apple says the product is not ready yet
Despite speculations, Apple insists that the product is not ready for customers. In an October statement, the company stated that it needed more time before releasing the AirPods to the general public even if the early responses have been incredible.
But, a Taiwan-based Original Design Manufacturer, Inventec Corporation, which makes notebook computers, servers, and mobile devices, says that the shipping of AirPods is likely to begin in January 2017. The truth in this remains to be seen in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, Apple’s stock closed at $113.95 witnessing an increase of $1.83 or 1.63%.
