Jeanna Jackson, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant and TWU Local 556 member in good standing is spearheading the recall effort on behalf of thousands of her fellow flight attendants seeking a change in union leadership.
“The TWU Local 556 members in good standing have spoken – they are serious about this recall. After repeated delays, the process is finally taking place and we are optimistic the union will fulfill its obligations and comply with the by-laws,” Jackson said.
A federal lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division, but it was later dismissed without prejudice to refiling after the union indicated it would cooperate with the recall process outlined in its by-laws. Representatives for the union have indicated that the initial recall petition verification should be complete by July 31, 2017.
Ms. Jackson also stated, “Additional delays will not be tolerated. If we need to go back to court, we will. Now is the time for the TWU Local 556 leadership to prove that they intend to honor the will of the members.”
The recall petition is not an action against Southwest Airlines, rather, it is a governance option authorized by the by-laws of the union. The flight attendants leading the recall effort are represented by Joshua A. Verde of The Verde Law Firm, PLLC in Houston, Texas.
