Toyota Motor Corp (ADR) (NYSE:TM) Impressed With Recent Robotic Test With Disabled Man

Toyota Motor Corp (ADR) (NYSE:TM) maybe a top manufacturer of cars, but it is important to note that this is not the only thing it does. Toyota also deals in the manufacture of robots. This does not merely mean factory droids that help build its vehicles. It manufactures a wide array of robots and soon it might become one of the industry leaders in the manufacture of high end robots.

Last week, Toyota successfully completed a much anticipated test. Experimental robots helped Romulo Camargo, a disabled war veteran that lives in Florida, accomplish numerous tasks over a period of two days.

According to sources, the war veteran became paralyzed from the neck down during the time he was out on a mission in Afghanistan. He had gotten shot during an exchange of fire and his life has never been the same again.

Romulo has been using the Toyota’s so-called human-support robot within a timeframe of two days which was to serve as a trial.

The main target was to establish how robots could help the disabled in society go about their daily tasks. This was part of the company’s strong moves to explore robotics as well as the other great business opportunities in a bid to try and generate more revenues.

In 2012, Toyota debuted its human-support robot. According to Yahoo, it has been carrying out numerous tests. The white robot weighs about 80 pounds and it looks like an oversized microscope outfitted with an arm with capabilities to grasp different objects.

Toyota has plans underway to fit in some specialized chips which will help a great deal with specific computer-vision tasks. Computer vision software is expected to play a key role towards making powerful robots that can “see” the world.
