Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) Introduces Glass Roof Feature To Model S

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has kept its part of the bargain by routinely updating its Model S technology. The car looks promising in terms of performance. It is perhaps the reason why Tesla has taken to investing in a new feature, a glass roof. According to the company’s CEO Elon Musk, the technology is aimed at giving passengers a feeling of an expansive cabin. It was not long ago thatTesla upgraded the Model S’s front fascia and grill.

THe Tesla Model S is currently the third fastest production car after Ferrari’s LaFerrari and Porsche’s 918 Spyder. It is likely that Musk’s aim is to break this record. The all-glass roof, which comes at an extra price of $1,500, goes beyond the sedan’s existing panoramic sunroof option.

Glass roof provides excellent rollover safety

While Musk admits that the technology was not easy to develop, he also acknowledges that it was a worthy cause. It block out 98% of UV rays and also keeps cabin temperatures cool by blocking 81% of heat, thanks to the protective layers within the glass. However, the addition of a satellite radio or a roof rack dictates that the drivers stick with the panoramic sunroof, which costs $2,000.

New venture between Tesla and Solar City

Tesla’s new technology will come in handy in the development of the company’s solar roof product given that it has acquired the solar company SolarCity. There is optimism that the new venture between the two will bear fruit in mid-2017 after the release of an upcoming Model S compact EV. But there are also projected delays given the huge price gap between Tesla’s P90D and P100D.

But even as Musk remains confident about the venture, experts claim that he is over promising. They also argue that SolarCity’s debt may jeopardize Tesla’s operations. Meanwhile, Tesla’s stock closed the trading session at $190.56 for an increase of $3.14 or 1.68%.
