Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) Robot Dogs Expected To Return

The stock of Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) closed at $37.70 gaining 0.53% in yesterday’s trading session. Between 1999 and 2006, Sony was able to sell about 150,000 of its Aibo robot dogs. Sources close to the company have revealed that the robot dog might be stepping onto the scene once again.

A lot of people are wondering what its new name will be. To this point the company has not yet announced its name. Sony in a statement has outlined that in the following month it will be unveiling a new “dog-shaped pet robot” which will be used in the controlling of connected home appliances.

Over the years the robot dog has looked forward to being able to rise and become a worthy competitor to the “smart speaker” home assistants. The HomePod, Home and Echo are some of the big names.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony’s new “pet project” is set to be unveiled in the spring of next year and most of the interested parties will be awaiting the moment. Most of the potential buyers have been seeking to understand the associated price but to this moment in time it still remains a great mystery.

The wide range of Aibo models are between $600 to over $2,000. Sony went ahead to unveil Xperia Hello, which is a smart speaker with top end capabilities. It is associated with a hefty $1,300 price-tag and it still remains unclear whether or not the regular people will be within reach for the regular persons.

Questions have been popping up with many questioning whether or not Sony is determined to remain a major player in this particular space.

Sony has about 100 people working on its robotics projects and it hopes to take the figure higher in the next few months. One of the company’s officials opined, “We are looking forward to implement numerous strategies that will see us offer the best to our esteemed customers.”
