Many of the telecommunication firms have been in competition in the provision of network speed and this time, T-Mobile US Inc (NASDAQ:TMUS) seems to be in the lead. The company says it will be installing gigabit-class speeds on the Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ devices, which are yet to be unveiled. The devices will be the first to have the combined power of three T-Mobile advanced LTE technologies capable of delivering up to double current speeds.
But what exactly will T-Mobile’s speeds offer to Samsung’s Galaxy S8 customers?
T-Mobile’s vice president of network engineering, Grant Castle says, “Samsung Galaxy S8, under the right conditions in areas with the key underlying technologies enabled, should be able to reach download speeds of “hundreds of megabits per second.”
Apparently, the new speed, which will boost LTE networ 4×4 MIMO will not have any extra charge. Castle emphasizes that Samsung phones have the bells and whistles that the carrier has been seeking for. In addition to the new channels, the S8 devices will also have a carrier aggregation technique as well as the capability of using four antennas at once.
T-Mobile is not alone in the new speeds spectrum
The market is crowded such that even as T-Mobile touts its new move, it will have to face tight competition. Its LTE-U will make it possible to bring forth the Gigabit LTE in many places. However, even though it has not given any tangible details, Sony says it will also be unveiling a gigabit-capable phone.
Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) is also on the trail with the deployment of High-Performance User Equipment (HPUE). Earlier on, the company said that Samsung was unveiling an upcoming flagship, which would be among the first to use this technology.
On the other hand, Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) will also be deploying other technologies the likes of 256 QAM and 4X4 MIMO. However, the company does not have any specifications in regards to gigabit speed claims. Meanwhile, T-Mobile customers can now start pre-ordering the Galaxy S8, which if pre-ordered at T-Mobile comes with a free Gear VR with controller and Oculus content.
In the meantime, T-Mobile stock closed at $64.74 witnessing an increase of $0.51 or 0.79%.
