Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to release a completely new iPhone this year. Possibly dubbed the iPhone 8 (or the iPhone X), the new handset would feature wireless charging, OLED display, and front-facing 3D camera. Rumors suggest that it would be a 5.8-inch flagship handset with an edge-to-edge display.
In this post, we’ve rounded up everything we so far know about the purported iPhone 8.
OLED Display
The iPhone 8 is expected to get a curved OLED display with glass on the back. OLED is better than traditional LCD in contrast ratio, colors, and viewing angles. OLEDs consume less power compared to LCDs as well as they do not require the backlighting just like LCDs.
Wireless Charging
Apple is expected to add a long-distance wireless charging technology to new iPhones.
The iPhone maker is reportedly building its own technology to enable the phone’s recharging from a long distance. Reports suggest that the company hired a team of wireless charging engineers to build the wireless charging technology for the iPhone 8.
According to analysts including KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, wireless charging will be a selling point for the iPhone 8.
Camera
Apple is interested in further improving camera technology in the iPhone 8.
Kuo, who is a famous Apple analyst, believes that the iPhone 8 will have the dual-lens camera that was originally introduced in the iPhone 7 Plus. According to Kuo, the iPhone 8 will come with optical image stabilization for both the wide-angle and telephoto lenses.
A report by Korea Economic Daily suggested that Apple is planning to add a 3D camera to the iPhone 8. According to the paper, the tech giant teamed up with LG to source 3D cameras for the 10th anniversary iPhone.
iPhone 8 Price and Release Date
The iPhone 8 is expected to be an expensive smartphone due to OLED display and wireless charging. Reports from multiple sources including JP Morgen suggest that Apple will offer the iPhone 8 at $1,000.
As far as the launch date is concerned, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to unveil the iPhone 8 in September alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
