Reports indicate that a new phone from Nokia Corp (NYSE:NOK) has been granted the China Compulsory Certification. The new phone is attributed to HMD Global, the Finnish firm that was licensed to make Nokia-branded phones. FIH Precision Electronics, a unit of Foxconn Technology Group, is listed as the manufacturer in the certification document.
Features and specifications
Some of the specifications on the new phone that has been listed as TA-1000 include a standard 5V/2A charging support. According to experts, the absence of a fast charging support is an indication that the phone is likely not a flagship product and is probably the rumored Nokia E1. Besides the standard charging support, the HMD Global phone is said to be sporting an entry-level chipset from Snapdragon. The size of the screen is 5.5 inches. It will run Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Android 7.0 Nougat on a RAM of 1GB and internal storage of 8GB. Falling in the budget level category, the phone that comes with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels is expected to be priced below $100.
Premium model
Other than the budget smartphone HMD Global is also rumored to be planning to launch higher-priced phones with more powerful features. This includes a version boasting a price of around $200. It will contain 3GB of RAM and an HD display of 5.5 inches. Besides an expandable internal storage of 16GB, the variant could also possess a 16-megapixel camera. There will also be a variant that is cheaper than the higher-priced one but a little more expensive than the lowest-priced one.
“The higher-priced version of the two variants will cost US$200, and come with 3GB of RAM and a 5.5-inch Full HD (1080p) display. The cheaper version is to cost US$150, packed with 2GB RAM and a 5-inch Full HD display,” according to a report that first appeared in technews.com, a Chinese-language news publication.
Additionally, HMD Global has announced that information concerning its lineup of smartphones running on the Android operating system will be made at the Mobile World Congress to be held in February 2017. Earlier, speculation was rife that the lineup was to be revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2017.
Shares of Nokia Corp rose by 0.62% on Thursday’s trading session to close the day at $4.83 a piece.
