Some of the greatest athletic products are designed at Nike Inc. (NYSE:NIKE) headquarters near Beaverton, Oregon. There is a constant drive to imagine, invent and deliver the future of sport — a mission facilitated by workspaces that support rapid iteration and creation through collaboration. This allows Nike to scale its innovation to all athletes. In the spirit of accelerating this process, Nike unveils the design for expansion of its World Headquarters.
“Every day at Nike we dream up new ways to inspire athletes to expand their potential,” says Mark Parker, President and CEO, NIKE, Inc. “To do that, we relentlessly evolve how we inspire our own teams and design environments that foster chemistry and collaboration. Our expanding World Headquarters reflects the best of Nike’s culture — a place where we obsess the athlete and invent future products and experiences for consumers everywhere.”
The project is expected to be completed by 2018 and will offer slightly more that 3 million square feet of office, mixed use, parking and campus space.
Three Northwest-based firms have been given the responsibility of design: ZGF Architects, SRG Partnership and Skylab Architecture, while PLACE, of Portland, will provide landscape architecture services.
The implementation of the expansion is in line with the original campus plans to offer a greener landscape and link all major areas together. The architecture itself takes inspiration from human movement, speed and the strength and energy of competition, all central to Nike’s core mission. A beacon serves as a campus center while spanning structures radiating from the tower pay homage to Nike’s namesake, the winged goddess of victory.
