Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) Subscribers Not Happy About Teaser Trailers

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) has been streaming teaser trailers on its content streaming platform but some people appear to be outraged by the move.

Some of the people who do not like what the company is doing have taken to social media platforms such as Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) to complain. Netflix had previously announced plans to test out video trailers that play automatically during the Mobile World Congress.

The auto-playing trailers are different from the advertising that has existed alongside content for such a long time. However, users are still distrustful about advertising on the platform for which they pay monthly subscription fees. However, the teaser trailers were launched in February and initially only a few users would see them. They advertise shows that are aired on the streaming platform, and the trailers mostly play automatically when the Netflix app is launched. They include original Netflix content as well as content from other sources.

Netflix already released a statement clarifying that it has been testing out the teaser trailers and that they were limited to some of the subscribers. A spokesperson for the company stated that Netflix learns by testing and the features being tested may or may not become adopted into a full time feature to enhance the Netflix experience.

The teaser trailers are therefore not ads, and it’s just a feature designed to promote content on the platform. Either way, some people are not comfortable with it because the platform already allows users to explore new content through the menu. However, the logic is that the company could take advantage of that space to offer ads, and this would obviously outrage most of the subscribers. Most tweets about the feature revolve around disapproval of the feature.

It is not clear at the moment whether Netflix will proceed to turn the feature into a full time thing but there will most likely be more to come in terms of the company promoting its products.
