Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is expected to launch a new Windows 10 smartphone dubbed the Surface Phone sometime this year. Last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella hinted that the company is building an “ultimate mobile device.”

Nadella said that Microsoft is thinking about a phone that “may not look like phones that are there today.”

“We will continue to be in the phone market not as defined by today’s market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device,” Nadella said, adding that Microsoft is looking at different forms of mobile devices.

Recently, in his first podcast interview with Molly Wood’s Marketplace, Nadella said: “When you say we’ll make more phones, I’m sure we’ll make more phones, but they will not look like phones that are there today.”

Microsoft Surface Phone Specs, News, Features

The “ultimate mobile device” is rumored to come in three different models including a consumer model, a business phone, and a special edition handset.

The Phone is expected to feature a 5.5 AMOLED display with a 1440×2560 pixel Quad-HD resolution.

The higher-end model is said to come with 4GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. Inside the handset, we may see Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipsets.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is expected to use a 21 MP rear camera with a Carl Zeiss lens in the smartphone. On the front side, there would be an 8 MP camera.

This is everything we so far know about the purported Surface Phone.

Microsoft Surface Phone Price and Release Date

The Surface Phone is likely to be an expensive smartphone.

Rumors suggest that the lower-end model of the Phone would cost $699, while the higher-end model would start at $1,100.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is expected to release the Surface Phone in the fourth quarter of 2017. However, some sources claim that the Phone won’t arrive until the first quarter of 2018.
